Fruits and Veggies Disguised as a Delicious Chocolate Milkshake

Pregnancy has taken me back to a point in my life about 11 years ago, pre-vegan, when I hated pretty much all fruits and vegetables and was, in fact, one of the pickiest eaters in the world. Now the culprit is intense nausea rather than my own ignorance, which makes it even more frustrating because I know eating a variety of fruits and veggies is more important than ever! And I want to eat them and fondly remember my love for them, but my stomach wants only whole wheat bagels.

Of course, I find ways around my aversion. One of them is this tasty chocolate “milkshake” that I’ve modified from Unprocessed by Chef AJ. This recipe would be an awesome way to get the picky eaters in your life to eat a crap-ton of green vegetables and antioxidant-rich fruit and, if you don’t tell them what’s in it, they’ll never guess!

Chocolate “Milkshake”

  • 6 ounces unsweetened soymilk or unsweetened chocolate almond milk
  • 4 ounces pomegranate juice
  • 1-2 dates
  • 6 ounces spinach (this is a LOT of spinach)
  • 3 Tbsp good quality cocoa powder
  • 2 cups frozen blueberries

Put in the blender in that order and blend! I use a Vita-Mix, but I imagine this will work in any blender.
